Noordwijk Binnen. (historical tour app. 4 km, will take around two hours)
The tour will start in front of the town hall of Noordwijk Binnen, which you can approach by shank's pony, bike, organised transport or your own car.
First of all you will get a short introduction into the development of Noordwijk-Binnen's historical city centre and learn why the town used to be so wealthy.
The Voorstraat accommodates houses that are more than 500 years old. Today's new buildings had to be erected in the same style as the old ones. You'll find marvellous Renaissance houses and homesteads as well as wonderful Rococo buildings. Along the Voorstraat and on the Lindenplein ancient and majestic lime trees accentuate the historical atmosphere.
During our walk we'll look at various old buildings and you'll get information about the historical background. The time will spring to life with stories about typical trades and what life was like then.
Apart from farmers, ropers and spice seekers were quite common, as well as boarding schools.
(A school where the pupils learn as in a normal school, but live there as well).
The shooting club is still in action. 500 years ago it wasn't guns but crossbows that were used. The aim is a ‘Gaai’, situated on top of a 29m high mast.
The ‘Grote’ or ‘St. Jeroenskerk’ (kerk=church (since 1320)) is a beautiful church with a fabulous ‘Knipscheerorgel’ (organ). The tour will, if possible, be combined with a concert.
(Lunch concerts in May, evening concerts in June, July and August).
