The Manor Tour. (bike tour app. 55km)
This bike tour will lead you along the Manor Offem in Noordwijk and through the old Rijndelta, further down to Katwijk - Binnen and towards Wasenaar. Wassenaar is reknown for its green character and the many Manors and Villas. Their forests are situated on a row of dunes, that count more than 4000 years. The landscape around has most certainly changed, but the structures of the beach walls and the beach level is well distinguishable.
The route leads us across many estates, across Haagse Bos and further down along the 'Koninklijk Paleis Huis ten Bosch' (Royal Palace). Nearly unnoticeable we'll cycle into Den Haag, then through 'Het Binnenhof', since centuries the centre of political power in the Netherlands. We'll see 'Panorama Mesdag' (museeum), 'Het Vredespaleis' were the international court of Justice is situated. Onward we go, through the 'Scheveningse Bosjes' (park), along 'Madurodam' (miniature city) and the 'Scheveningse Gevangenis' (jail), then once again back to nature and quietness near the water tower of 'Meijendel'. After a tour through the relatively young dunes (app. 600-900 years) along Wassenaar and Katwijk our expedition ends at Noordwijk.
The forests and pastures around the city and the sweeping dunes make for an outstanding experience.
